OUR MISSION = EMPOWER VOTERS.
Our mission is simple - to empower Oklahoma public education supporters by delivering easy-to-access tools that encourage legislative accountability, improved voter knowledge, and greater community engagement. We will do this by:
Publishing an annual Oklahoma Education Voter Guide for primary and general elections
Evaluating legislative voting records and publishing legislative report card “grades”
Tracking education legislation and sharing it with the public
Providing quality community engagement resources for rural Oklahoma voters
The 2018 teacher walkout was just the beginning. Fast forward to 2022 - due to continued poor public school policy from the Oklahoma Capitol during a global pandemic, we find ourselves in a real time, permanent teacher walkout. Something drastic must be done to see our way out of looming disaster for our beloved rural schools. It is now time to encourage a greater level of public ed advocacy and activism in our rural Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma Rural Schools Coalition is a true grassroots, parent led effort to support rural Oklahoma classrooms and empower our members to change the course of public education politics in our state. We have no hidden agendas to promote - we simply want to provide a comprehensive resource that will help you empower YOURSELF to become the best rural education warrior you can be.
Accountability + Knowledge + Engagement
Grade legislators.
Voting records will tell you what you need to know about who is actually supporting rural Oklahoma schools and who is not. All votes pertaining to key rural education legislation for the 2021 and 2022 sessions will be tracked and legislators will be given a letter grade score, based off the % of votes supporting rural public education. No editorializing. No bias. No personal opinion endorsements. Just the black and white votes in committee and on the floor.
Track bills.
It’s not easy to know what new bills are important for rural public education, and tracking their progress through a legislative session is an uphill battle, especially on the hard-to-navigate State website. We want to make it simple for you to keep track of exactly what’s going on during legislative session.
Engage communities.
We have developed resources for rural public education advocates to get their communities better engaged in the election process. Effective change begins at the local level and we want to help you empower your neighbors. One thing is guaranteed in politics - if nothing changes, nothing changes.
